The Little Mermaid

Included in this two-disc set are two versions of The Little Mermaid. The first is the 1989 instant-classic animated film that marked the beginning of the "Disney Renaissance." This charming adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen fable follows young Ariel on her quest for true love with a land-dwelling prince, much to the distress of her sea king father. The film features a wonderful, Oscar-winning score including songs such as "Under the Sea," "Part of Your World," and "Kiss the Girl." The movie is filled with an array of memorable aquatic characters and is suitable for all ages. The voices of Jodi Benson, Christopher Daniel Barnes, Pat Carroll, and Buddy Hackett bring the characters to life in this 83-minute film. It is rated G.

The second version included in this set is The Little Mermaid (2023), a remarkable live-action/CGI remake of the 1989 Disney musical classic. The film stars Halle Bailey as the mermaid princess Ariel, whose curiosity about the surface world and attraction to the human prince Eric (Jon Hauer-King) leads her to clash with her overprotective ocean king father (Javier Bardem). Ariel finds herself in a vulnerable position, as she is manipulated by the cunning sea witch Ursula (Melissa McCarthy). This all-ages charmer also features the voices of Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, and Jacob Tremblay. The movie runs for 135 minutes and is rated PG.
